Overview

Some customers have shown an interest in an item by visiting it more than once, but have not yet purchased, or even added the item to their cart. By reminding those users of these products, we can get them to re-engage and complete their purchase.

This article explains how to define this segment and configure a campaign to use it.

Segment Creation - Browse Abandoners

This segment includes customers who browsed an item twice, did not add the item to their cart, and then did not complete a purchase.

In order to do so, construct a segment by navigating to Customers > Behaviors.

Within the Behavior tab, configure the the steps in this way:

  1. Everyone who matched Product Detail View at least 1 time in the previous 1 week
  2. and then did not match Product Add to Cart linked to Step 1 with same Product Id for 1 week
  3. and then matched Product Detail View linked to Step 1 with same Product Id for 1 week
  4. and then did not match Product Add to Cart linked to Step 1 with same Product Id for 1 week
  5. and then did not match Order Line Item Purchase linked to Step 1 with same Product Id for 1 week

Your Behavior should look similar to the below screenshot:

Then, pull that behavior into your segment like so:

Campaign Setup

This campaign should be set up as scheduled, not event-triggered. You are unable to add segments to event-triggered emails.

Follow the instructions outlined in the Campaign Creation documentation to create and define a campaign for targeting your Browse Abandoners.

Results Analysis

After your campaign begins sending, you'll want to analyze results. See the various analytics help pages for further information on how to dive into metrics for the campaign. Good places to start:

Content Creation

In order to build a browse abandonment email, static variables for item_url will need to be specified so the email recipients will be able to click through to the item. See the documentation on Campaign Creation for more details.

Other e-commerce integrations will require mapping item_url to a value appropriate for your ecommerce system.
