Overview

Some customers have shown a significant level of purchase intent by adding an item to their shopping cart; however, they did not complete their purchase. If those customers were reminded of those products in which they displayed interest, they may be encouraged to return to the site to complete their purchase.

This article will walk you through the basics of using ZAIUS:

  • Identify Cart Abandoners through segmentation
  • Synchronizing that segment to Google and Facebook (FREE)
  • Creating an email campaign (Premium)

Segment Creation - Cart Abandoners

This segment includes customers who added one or more items to their shopping cart, but then did not complete their purchase. They also must not have removed the item from their cart.

In Zaius, we define this segment using a behavior path that describes the above situation. Follow the below steps to create your own Cart Abandoners segment:

Create Your Abandoned Cart Behavior:

1: Navigate to CUSTOMERS  >> BEHAVIORS

2: Click the Create New Behavior button in the top left

3: Configure your Behavior to look like the following:

Now Apply your Behavior to a Segment:

  1. Navigate to CUSTOMERS >> SEGMENT MANAGER
  2. Click the "+ Segment" button.
  3. Click the Blue "Create a New Segment" button.
  4. Click the "Behavior" tab.
  5. Select the Abandoned Cart Behavior segment you created
  6. Name your segment in where it says "My Segment ..." and then Save your Segment

Abandoned Cart Email Template Setup

Now that you have your Abandoned Cart Segment you will want to create your abandoned cart email template so that it shows the product image and details of products abandoned. Follow these steps:

1: Navigate to ENGAGE >> TEMPLATES

2: Click Create New Template in the top left

3: In the column to the right, click and drag a Dynamic Grid element into your template

4: Click and drag an Image element into the top left quadrant of the grid, this will allow you to display product images

5: Click and drag a Text element directly beneath the image element, this will allow you to add product details such as name, price, description etc to the email.

6: Now, look in the top left where it says Container, click Dynamic Grid within the breadcrumb trail:

  1. Once the dynamic Grid is selected, look in the right hand column in the Details tab and ensure the Feed dropdown is set to Products and the Source Dropdown has your Abandoned Cart Behavior selected.

8: Now, click on the Image Element within your template and locate the Image URL field in the Details tab to the right (it is at the top). Within this field type {{product.image_url}}. This will ensure that the images of the products abandoned populate the email

9: Finally, click into the text element of your template and add liquid tokens of what product details you would like to populate i.e. {{product.name}}, {{product.price}} etc

10: Add From and Reply to Names/addresses at the top, Name your template at the very top, and save your template. Nice Work!

Constructing Your Campaign

Now that your segment and template are good to go you can construct your campaign! Follow these steps:

1: Navigate ENGAGE >> CAMPAIGNS and click CREATE NEW CAMPAIGN at the top
2: Select the Customers who Match a Segment option and then choose your Segment from the list.

  1. Enable the first constraint so that it shows as Users Who Have not Been Active In the Last 1 Hours . You can select any time duration you would like, this simply demonstrates the delay of inactivity from when the visitor abandoned cart to when they are enrolled into your campaign
  2. Enable the second constraint so that it shows as  Users who have not matched this campaign in the last 7 days. You can select any time duration you would like, this simply denotes the length of time that needs to pass before the visitor can be eligible for the abandoned cart series after receiving an abandoned cart email.

Here is an example Abandon Cart Campaign Enrollment Screenshot:

Once your enrollment criteria is setup click on Edit button to the right of Touchpoints and follow these steps:

1) Select your Abandoned Cart Template in the middle left "Load Template" dropdown

2) You can preview or test your campaign via the buttons in the middle right

3) Once your campaign tests look good click SAVE in the top right

4) Finally, click GO LIVE in the the top right of the campaign screen to activate your campaign.

5) Watch the opens, clicks, and most importantly Orders roll in! Great Work!
